U.S. at 2013 National Memorial for the Pre-Born
The dawning of the year 2013 brings the 40th anniversary of
the Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton decisions that legalized
abortion in the United States throughout pregnancy. The pro-life
movement is gearing up to observe this anniversary in January
and throughout the year.
Plans have long been in the works for the 2013
interdenominational National Memorial for the Pre-Born and Their
Mothers and Fathers, held every year on the morning of the
annual March for Life in Washington DC. It brings pro-life
activists together from around the nation.
“There are certain galvanizing moments in the history of
every movement for social reform – moments that represent
definitive turning points on the path to victory. For the
pro-life movement, the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade can and
should be such a moment,” said Father Frank Pavone, National
Director of Priests for Life and President of the National
Pro-Life Religious Council. “Together, let’s make it so by
joining together for this national memorial service,
representing the entire Body of Christ in its prayer and its
call for equal protection of our unborn brothers and sisters!”
Sponsors will include the National Pro-Life Religious
Council; Priests for Life/Gospel of Life Ministries; National
Pro-Life Center on Capitol Hill; National Clergy Council; Faith
and Action, and National Pro-Life Radio.
“Some things just can't be ignored by Christians. The
sanctity of God's gift of life is one of them. The anniversary
of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision gives all of us an
opportunity to rededicate ourselves to this sacred obligation,
said the Rev. Rob Schenck, President of the National Clergy
Council and lead missionary of Faith and Action. “I am asking
all the pastors, churches, and lay people I know to commit to
this special gathering above anything else in 2013. Put it on
your calendar. Bring family, friends, and church members with
you. Let's make this our biggest effort ever to restore respect
for God's gift of life!”
The National Memorial for the Pre-Born will take place from
8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25 in the DAR Constitution
Hall, 1776 D Street Northwest, Washington, D.C. To keep up to
date as plans progress for the prayer service and other events
regarding the 40th anniversary of Roe, visit

"It is absolutely critical, as we prepare for the most solemn
duty of citizenship, to pray for and end of the worst scourge in
our nation's experience. Our prayer must be earnest, bold and
united,” said the Rev. Paul Schenck, founding director and
Chairman of the National Pro-Life Center. “The National Memorial
for the Pre-Born is that kind of prayer - the prayer needed now
more than ever. No one who believes in the sanctity and dignity
of human life should neglect this high call to pray!"
